How can I get into the business if I have no experience? Des Last updated by Gavin: 20-Dec-2017
I’m a good driver with years of experience and I’d like to try my hand at hgd driving. Can somebody tell me if there’re any requirements I should bear in mind?

All you need is to have a full driver’s license and be over 18. I’d say that the easiest way is to start as a trainee, and once you have a bit of experience you should be ok.

Sure? Is that all? I would have expected to've had to take some specific course or something. In the end of the day we're talking about heavy vehicles, very different from a simple car...

Well, you really need to take an lgv course and get your certification. You’ll also need a professional driving qualification, the cpc. This qualification, is a 4 part exam. Plenty of centres offer training for this specific exam. They train you from scratch.
