I am very fond of the elderly and of little kids, I like taking care of the weak and I’ve been able to try my abilities at caring in summer camps and through voluntary work. I’d love to try my hand at doing it in a more formal way. Trouble is that I don’t have any formal training and I’m being told that I don’t stand a chance. Does anybody have any experience that will shed some light as to what I could do?

    • I was in the same situation about a year ago. If you have some sort of health care qualification, all the better, but in fact, experience of health care or care work can be enough most times. I say go for it, it’s a vocational kind of thing, and for someone who feels that strongly about it … you have to try!

      • You can get into the trade with an apprenticeship as well. It’s a great way to start, get the hang of things and train. I did it and it helped me iron out some aspects. If I were to start again and could not take a course, I’d do it all over again, it was great.
