People who enjoy working with the hardware and software that underpins the popular computing experience may want to pursue a career in the exciting and growing field of IT - the general term used to define everything related to computers and the transfer of information
An IT specialist is someone who provides the technical support to computer users who have problems with software and hardware. They often work over the phone or via email, although there are also face-to-face support specialists available in many industries. The job possibilities in IT are endless, with virtually every sector of society now using computers.
Other IT specialists work within a company, school, hospital or government office to keep the technological and computer systems running smoothly. While computing skills are obviously essential, it’s also very important to have good communication and interpersonal skills because the job often involves working directly with customers and clients.
A Bachelors degree in computer science is all that is needed to get started in this career. Salaries vary widely, but on average a person working in the IT sector can earn at least £20,000 to start.
