Medical Receptionist

The medical receptionist role requires the candidate to be the front of house for the doctor's surgery, clinic, dental surgery, or other healthcare facility. Having excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as is being attuned to patients' needs.
The role does not require formal training and on-the-job training is usually performed. If the candidate does not have experience or training in a similar role, such training is imperative. The duties include answering telephones and creating appointments with the doctor(s) and collecting personal data, and inputting it into a computer system. Keeping the administrative side up to date and in order is of paramount importance. Sending and receiving mail, emails and handling of packages will also be required.
GCSEs, A levels and certificates in administrative assistance would be beneficial, and experience with MS Office and computing in general is a plus. The average salary for a medical receptionist is between £13,300 and £16,000, depending on experience. Bonuses are sometimes available and overtime may be required on occasion.

  • EMIS WEB Kalie

Having experience as a receptionist at a hotel I'm considering trying to apply for a job as a medical receptionist. I'e seen in may job offers that emis web is required. Has anybody used it? Is it difficult to learn?

    • Agnes:

I have. Like with everything else it depends on the person and on your previous experience with programs. I don't think it's anything that you couldn't learn. I'm also sure that there are online tutorials or short courses that can help you get an idea of how it works. I wouldn't worry too much about iut, but I'd definitely try and find a training course -online or in person- to learn it and not be at a disadvantage.

      • Kalie:

Thanks Agnes. Do you happen to know of a place around Grimsby?

        • Agnes:

Sorry Kalie I'm not from the area, I'm actually from Plymouth, but I'm sure that there must be something in or near Grimsby, or online... Try googling it ...

          • Kalie:

            Will do, thanks.
