Network Security

The Network Security Engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of computer software and hardware within a computer network. This person deals with the general health of a network, ensuring that the network connectivity is up to par with the technical parameters set out by the organisation
Typical work responsibilities include installing, configuring, and maintaining PCs and network equipment. The engineer must secure the IT infrastructure, making sure it provides reliable, measurable, and consistent enterprise network services. Another role is that of deterring and preventing cyber crime, identity or data theft, hacking, and privacy invasions. The engineer is responsible for the security of vital information systems belonging to the organisation.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong understanding of network operating systems, equipment, and protocols, along with a deep knowledge of software maintenance and troubleshooting. Good interpersonal skills are also a must in identifying users’ needs. Most employers seek out applicants with a university degree in computer science or software engineering. The typical annual salary for this position is about £42,000.
