  • What jobs could I look for if I’m looking for School hours? Last updated by Sophia: 30-Nov-2017

I’m looking for a part time job I can do during school hours now that my kids are in school and I honestly don’t know where to start. I have no previous experience other than supermarket cashier. Could anybody give me some pointers, please?!

    • Grace, lack of experience is not necessarily a problem, though it definitely is not an advantage. But if you have experience as cashier, even if it was years ago, you should be all right. If I were you I’d look for some training course to get up to date with any possible changes that may have happened since you worked last. Yet, my experience is that you normally get in-house training as every business has its own system. Something I’ve often found very useful is to be in touch with organizations that specialise in working mums. They tend to have job offers that adjust to our needs and plenty of advice available. Best of luck, I know what it’s like as I’m in the same situation ;-)

  • School hour’s jobs Last updated by Hannah: 22-Nov-2017

After a few years looking after my two lovely children, I’m ready to go back to work. Before becoming a stay at home mum I had been working for a few years as receptionist in a local business. I had no specific training, but I started as a trainee y managed to do well to be able to stay in the job. Now, after 6 years at home I have my doubts that whatever experience I got back then will count for anything at this stage. I’m not sure what path to take and would be grateful for any advice. My only condition / necessity is to be able to work within school hours so as to be able to look after my growing kids

    • I don’t see why you should face any problems. If you have GCSEs at grades A to C in English and maths, plus your previous experience and you can prove that you have your computing skills up to date there shouldn’t be any issues. Now, what’s true is that on paper, if other candidates applying for the same job have more recent experience, then you may not be first choice. Though I assume that this disadvantage can be easily bridged by taking a course to update your skills, and it may not be to be a long one … worth investigating.
