Teaching Art

One of the most common areas of employment for creative individuals is teaching art. Art education is a vast field and is taught in many different environments from primary school to universities and prestigious institutions. The role of an art teacher is simply to aid students in art appreciation and in creating their own art
Art teachers of all kinds must possess exceptional communication skills, a warm rapport with their students and thorough knowledge of art history, techniques and mediums. In addition to actual student contact hours, an art educator’s typical day also includes lesson planning and material preparation
Requirements differ depending on the position, though nearly all persons looking into teaching art in the UK will need to have at least a bachelor’s degree in education and/or an artistic discipline. Professors will need graduate certifications (a PhD for tenured positions) and a large portion of posts require PGCE certification
Salaries for a newly qualified teacher range from about £18,000 to £26,000 per annum though are typically at least 10% higher in Inner London. Those working as university faculty will see figures starting at around £30,000, extending to more than £50,000 per annum.
