Transport Planner

A transport planner will focus on improving infrastructure and planning the optimum transport routes to service the residents of a particular location. They must follow government guidelines and local authority planning rules. A degree in geography or civil engineering is preferred for this role, although a Masters in transport planning will separate job seekers from other candidates
The main duty of this position is to follow the will of the people and the local authority, conducting surveys and focus groups in order to see where changes ought to be made to the transportation system. The job holder must then collate data and, working in tandem with councillors and city planners, come up with a strategy for a particular transport project
A person in this role must recognise the cost and efficiency of each separate strategy. Other duties include proposing and securing funding for transport projects. The job holder must be an innovative individual, who can work inside the policy conditions imposed upon them. They must also be a strong communicator who is able to work with people from different professional backgrounds
The salary for such a position is between £35,000 and £60,000.
