First Bus Driver

A first bus driver needs to be a dedicated and safety conscious individual. There are no formal qualifications required for the role, although prospective employees must have a clean driving license. The accepted applicant will receive the appropriate training which will focus on achieving the BTEC qualification, enabling them to drive a First bus. Those with an NVQ road passenger transport will be favoured for the role.
The main duties of the role are centred around safety and customer service. The First bus driver must perform tests on the buses controls and mechanics before embarking on their route. It is paramount the driver's booth is clutter-free and their visibility is at the optimum level when driving. Any problems or accidents must be reported immediately. The candidate must also make sure the bus is presentable, and the correct information is given to passengers in a customer-friendly manner
It is a job where the driver will work shift patterns, driving a number of studied routes along the First network. Good mental arithmetic is required since the driver will be handling money, whilst the employee must stick as close to the timetable as they can. Job holders must be presented well, wearing the appropriate uniform. The salary is dependent on location, but the national average for this position is between £8 and £9 per hour.
