Hotel Porter
The hotel porter is an important member of staff and one who contributes to the satisfaction of hotel guests. Typical duties include welcoming guests to the hotel, helping guests with luggage, assisting guests with queries, staffing the cloakroom, helping door staff, and maintaining hotel safety and tidiness
Some positions involve supervision and training of portering staff. In both hotels and dedicated conferencing venues, the position can include assisting in the management of meeting and conferencing facilities. Smaller establishments or night porter duties can cover a wider range of responsibilities from room service and the serving of drinks to handling other front of house requirements
Many positions offer great scope for advancement. Accommodation is often included. The role often demands a clean driving license and nearly always requires shift work. The ability to converse in other languages is a major asset but the primary requirements include personal cleanliness, politeness, attentiveness and good communication skills
An hourly wage of £7 can typically be expected, with rates varying between £6 and £8. Salaried positions can offer between £13,000 and £20,000, with £14,000 the amount most commonly offered.
