Human Resources Manager

Providing fellow managers with pragmatic human resources guidance is an important part of any company. The human resources manager of a company provides direction and advice on a wide range of HR-related issues, such as policy, procedure and legislation.
HR managers also have overall responsibility for the recruitment, termination and training of a company’s workforce, as well as the maintenance and update of personnel policies. Issues to be dealt with include those to do with attendance, grievance and disciplinary procedures. Other duties include reviewing and revising company policies to reflect any changes in employment legislation
The work is mainly office-based, although there is sometimes a need to travel to meetings, especially if working for a firm with multiple branches. Managers may join HR departments as administrators and work their way up, while others with degrees or postgraduate degrees in human resources enter at management level.
Other useful qualifications include the Certificate in Personnel Practice or the newer Certificate in Human Resources Practice. Salaries start at £25,000, with higher-end rates of between £40,000 and £50,000.
