Discrimination or discrimination? Carol Last updated by Liz: 17-Jul-2017
I’m having trouble getting a job as an electrical and mechanical technician and I think it’s because I’m a girl. I’m convinced that a male with my same characteristics wouldn’t have half the trouble I’m having.

I’m in the same situation, and I can’t see an end to it. I’ve been trying for over 3 months at this stage. Fact is that nowadays women have access to all sorts of training courses.

Unlike my mum I’ve been able to train in a profession I like, just like her I cannot seem to access certain jobs.

I see your point girls, but trying to be the devil’s advocate, when it comes to brute force females tend to be at a disadvantage… and brute force is relevant for mechanical technicians.

Carol:
I totally disagree, especially today, when there are so many machines in garages that do that part of the job for you. Besides, there are many jobs in a garage that DO NOT require physical force.

An electrical technician barely needs to use physical force as such. I don’t buy your answer John, not even as regards mechanical technicians.
