The work of individuals and organisations is critical in supporting international trade. Financing and administrative functions such as L/C, trade credit insurance, document collection and factoring help to ensure import and export trading can be executed
Administrative/clerical and officer positions within the industry will require experience in key aspects of the work, such as opening, amending, processing, checking and paying, familiarity with documentation like bills of lading, and knowledge of banking systems, especially SWIFT and Eximbills
Managerial positions and above will require well-rounded industry experience and contacts. Working with board-level management, these roles typically require the ability to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with other financial institutions and client contacts, manage teams and projects, contain exposure, structure L/Cs, and to solve occasional complex issues
Remuneration in trade finance depends very much on experience and level of responsibility. Finance Officers can expect salaries in the £30,000 - £45,000 range. Managers normally see salaries of £55,000 - £65,000. Partners, directors and other positions that involve sales or client sourcing can pay £90,000+.
