  I quite like the idea of being a chauffeur for a private household. I am not clear as to whether I would also have to do any maintenance for the household to make up the hours or would it be possible to get a part time job.

    each household and each employer are different. I'd say that if you're asked to do any maintenance it would be light maintenance. As regards part time I've no doubt you can get it, there are plenty of part time chauffeur jobs out there. You've just got to find one.
