Electronics Technician

Electronics technicians may find employment in a variety sectors including IT, general manufacturing or specialist companies as well as in the military. The position involves assembling, maintaining, repairing and testing all types of technical electronic equipment either in-house or off-site. Daily tasks include monitoring, testing and trouble-shooting, repairing or replacing components where necessary, plus decision-making as to whether factory or outside support is required for a specific malfunction.
Senior technicians in any sector will need extensive experience with the company’s products and its technical set-up, with field technicians needing a history of successful off-site maintenance and repair and computer technicians working exclusively on the company’s IT installations. Degrees and experience in the related fields are an essential, with job descriptions stating the exact requirements for each position. Other requirements may include certification and experience in specific sectors of electronics.
Salaries will vary along with educational and experience requirements, with entry-level wages at an average of £20,000 and senior positions drawing around £35,000.
