The key responsibility of a hotel manager is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the hotel they work for and its staff members. Most hotel managers directly report to the hotel owner or company executives in the case of large hotel chains. Candidates will be responsible for many different areas of the hotel, working closely with food and beverage, front house and accounting and finance managers
A hotel manager must be able to perform a range of duties, and therefore is required to have a repertoire of skills. Apart from understanding the operation of a hotel’s many sections, the job holder needs to have excellent problem-solving skills, be able to organise time efficiently, great customer service skills, display leadership skills and communicate effectively, and may be expected to work long hours
A degree in hotel management, hospitality, business management, business or tourism is a great way to start a career in the hotel business. However, such a qualification is not necessarily required. For management positions, it is important to have extensive experience in the industry. Salaries for high management positions can range between £50,000 and £100,000 plus per annum.
