Telephonist

Those working as a telephonist will do so in a variety of positions. Though typically tasked with providing the first point of telephone contact for companies of different sizes, positions can also involve taking orders for taxi or courier firms and handling reception duties
Traditional telephonist roles require the ability to field calls in a polite and professional manner, directing inquiries efficiently and taking messages where necessary. Customer care skills are critical and some positions require fluency in languages other than English. Experience with switchboard operation, computer systems, clerical or administrative duties and email may be required
Some roles involve a wider range of duties, such as managing boardrooms or setting up video conferencing, liaising with suppliers and clients, or typing documents. A median salary of £15,000 is typical for these positions but remuneration can vary between £13,000 and £18,000. Positions offering hourly pay generally offer £6 to £7 per hour, but up to £9 is possible.
