Architect job description

Post Job

The job of an architect is not only to design new structures, but to provide plans for altering existing buildings and restoring old properties. Projects may vary in size and scale, and architects are often required to be involved in a project from conception to completion. They work closely with clients to maximise ideas and budgets, and with contractors to make sure that the project meets all the required specifications
Attention to detail is vital for this line of work, which requires imagination, the ability to draw and visualise in 3D, and a passion for buildings. A degree from an accredited architectural school is also a prerequisite
Most architects are required to work normal office hours and some time is likely to be spent visiting sites. Good interpersonal skills are a necessity as it is important to be able to convey ideas to other professionals, including technicians, surveyors, engineers as well as clients
There are plenty of opportunities to move into other areas such as graphic and interior design. Salaries start at around £25,000 per year. Directors and partners may earn in excess of £100,000 per year.
